Panaji, Feb 1 (PTI) Congress'' frontal students union hasdemanded immediate arrest of Goa''s Leader of OppositionManohar Parrikar for his alleged involvement in abetting drugtrade during his tenure as a Chief Minister.
National Students Union of India (NSUI), in a letter toGoa Governor S S Sidhu, has pointed out to the recent mediastatement by State Home Minister Ravi Naik which claimed thatParrikar supported the drug lobby during his tenure.
NSUI Goa unit president Sunil Kawthankar said thatParrikar, a BJP leader, should be arrested for abetment ofcrime.
Last week, Naik addressing media had claimed thatopposition benches led by Parrikar had launched tirade againsthim because he was targeting the drug mafia.
He had also alleged that Parrikar was supporting druglords during his tenure (2000-2005).
NSUI has also demanded with the Governor that assets ofDirector General of Police (DGP) Bhimsen Bassi beinvestigated.
"The chief of police department role has been suspiciousas he has maintained silence and has refrained to act on theinvolvements of senior police officers like Veenu Bansal evenafter his involvement with the drug trade came to light," theletter said.
