Navt wants to acquire three islands, beach stretch in Goa

Panaji, Feb 1 (PTI) Goa government today said that theNavy has proposed to acquire three Islands off Goa and a beachstretch in the port town of Vasco.

In a written reply given in the assembly session, RevenueMinister Jose Philip D�Souza said that the Navy has submitteda proposal to acquire land at Bimvel Beach for INS Hansa andalso requested the acquisition of three Islands � PikenIsland, Grandi (large) Island and Grandi (Small) Islands.

D�Souza said that on July 9, 2010, the Defence EstateOfficer submitted the proposal for acquiring land at Bimvelbeach under section 17 of the Land Acquisition Act, whichindicates urgency of the proposal.

They later submitted the required documents and the stategovernment had asked them to deposit 80 per cent of value ofland, which is mandatory. But the Navy showed its inability todeposit it, he said.

"Therefore, the proposal was submitted to the governmentto issue the notification under section 4 without imposingurgency clause since 80 per cent deposit was not paid,"D�Souza said.

The Nevy was then asked to pay 25 per cent of cost ofland, which it has yet to pay.

Meanwhile, various individuals and organisationsincluding Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industries (GCCI) haveopposed acquisition of land.
