Gandhinagar, Feb 2 (PTI) Chief Minister Narendra Moditoday expanded his Council of Ministers by inducting six newmembers, taking the strength of the ministry to 27.
Governor Kamla administered the oath of office andsecrecy to the new ministers -Liladhar Vaghela, RanjitGilitwala, Mohan Kundaria, Ishwarbhai Patel, JaydrathsinhParmar and Jitu Sukhadia- at a function in Raj Bhavan here.
All have been give the rank of Minister of State.
According to political observers, the expansion hasbeen done with an eye on the Assembly polls due in late 2012.
This was the second expansion of Cabinet by Modi inthe last five months. Before the crucial elections to thelocal bodies, Modi had expanded his team on August 21 andinducted four Ministers, taking its strength to 21.
Vaghela, MLA from Deesa in Banaskantha district, hasbeen alloted the labour and employment portfolio, whileKundaria, MLA from Tankara in Rajkot district, who belongs tothe politically powerful Patel community, has been given therural development department.
Gilitwala, representing Surat (East), will be in-charge of Cottage Industries, Salt industry, publishing andprinting equipment, planning and transport, while Parmar, MLAfrom Halol, will look after Roads and Building Ministry.
Patel, legislator from Ankleshwar, has been made MoSof cooperatives, sports, youth and cultural activities.
Sukhadia, representing Sajyajiganj in Vadodara, has been givencharge of the tourism, Non-resident Gujarati department, foodand civil supplies and consumer affairs.
With induction of the six new MoS, Modi is understoodto have given representation to various regions of the state.
While Sukhadia and Parmar represent central Gujaratconstituencies, Gilitwala and Ishwar Patel belong to SouthGujarat.
North Gujarat has been represented by Vaghela, whileKundaria comes from the Saurashtra region.
