Kolkata, Feb 1 (PTI) Countering Chief Minister BuddhadebBhattacharjee''s charge that her party has a nexus with theMaoists, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee todayalleged it was the chief minister who was responsible for thebirth of the ultras in West Bengal.
"It is better not to speak much of him as he is thefather of the Maoists, made Writers'' Buildings the centre ofthe Harmads (CPI-M goons), his party office the labour room ofthe Maoists and stained his hands with the blood of thepolitical opponents," Banerjee said in a frontal attack onthe chief minister.Reacting angrily to the chief minister''s caution ofadministrative action ''to deal with her party workers forallegedly coordinating with the Maoists'', Banerjee expressedsurprise over what prevented the government from banning theCPI(Maoist) if it was so much worried about its activities.
"People want an answer from him," she told reporters.
"In fact, it was the CPI(M) which took Maoists'' help incapturing Keshpur and Garbeta under his chief ministership andsupplied 3,000 cartridges to the ultras," she said referringto the Marxists recapturing the two areas in West Midnaporedistrict from the Trinamool Congress in 2000-2001.
"It has become a fashion to put the label of Maoists ifanyone raises voices of protest against CPI(M) atrocities. He(Bhattacharjee) is depressed and knows that he will lose powerin the next Assembly elections. He has already lost ground andhas zero credibility to remain in power," she said.
Demanding a high-level probe into yesterday''s ''brutal''lathicharge on her party workers that left many journalistsinjured in Midnapore town, she alleged that ''a section ofpolicemen is acting as CPI(M) cadres''.
She alleged that the journalists were lathicharged as theplan to plant two rifles in the relief camp by the police wasfoiled by women inmates in the camp.
"The police did not want scribes to report thisincident," she said claiming that two police constables hadgone to the relief camp to plant the rifles.
Alleging that the chief minister himself was ''involved''in hatching plots to attack her, Banerjee said, "He was thereduring the police firing that killed 13 persons on July 21,1993 and behind the murderous attack on me at city''s Hazracrossing area in the early 90s."
The Trinamool chief dared the chief minister to takeaction, adding "I would like to see whom he will punish. Itis the chief minister who filed cases against lakhs ofTrinamool Congress workers under section 302 (murder)and 307(attempt to murder) of the IPC." PTI PKC PB MD
