Mumbai, Feb 1 (PTI) Information Technology Departmentof Maharashtra Government has become fully computerised fromtoday, bidding goodbye to bundles of files and papers.
"We have started paperless work from today and all thenew files regarding decisions, proposals, suggestions would becomputerised. It is a challenge but we can definitely have away," Nitin Karir, Secretary, IT Department, said.
The Department is also trying to make computerisedsignatures of authorities at the Secretary level and above, hesaid.
The Government''s IT policy recommends all thedepartments to go paperless and use computerised system topromote e-governance. The employees were given training forthe job. However, none of the departments is completelycomputerised.
On a query about missing files, Karir said such athing is not possible under the computerised system. However,the Department would keep the earlier files for back-upinstead of scrapping them.
The Government is also extending biometric attendancesystem to all its offices having more than 25 employees.
The Chief Minister has instructed us to install thesystem to all the Government offices by March 31, Karir said.
Even the Zilla Parishad schools and ashram schools fortribal children would have biometric attendance system forthe students, he added.
