Maharashtra changes submission date for new college proposals
Mumbai, Feb 2 (PTI) Maharashtra Government todaydecided to change the date of submission of proposals aboutopening new colleges in order to give more time to authoritiesfor scrutiny.
As per Maharashtra University Act, the universitieswere supposed to submit the proposals to the Higher andTechnical Education Department for final approvals by January1 which was changed to May 1 in a Cabinet meeting held here.
"The decision has been taken to promote quality ofeducation and ensure that the colleges make available goodinfrastructure for the students," Higher and TechnicalEducation Minister Rajesh Tope said.
The additional four months would give the universitiestime to check if the colleges have followed the norms likehaving a building, library with at least 500 books, laboratorywith proper apparatus, rooms for Principal and room, he said.
The decision would be implemented from the comingacademic year and the Act would be amended soon, he said.
The educational institutes usually apply to theuniversities for new colleges till November 15. Theuniversities concerned conduct scrutiny and then theapplications are send to the Government for final approval.
