New Delhi, Feb 2 (PTI) External Affairs Minister S MKrishna today met Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha SushmaSwaraj and conveyed to her the steps taken by the governmenton some issues over which she had expressed serious concern.
He drove to the residence of the senior BJP leader aftershe tweeted about her request for a meeting with him todiscuss the issues.
Swaraj told reporters after the meeting that the matterof putting electronic clamps on Indians studying in a ''sham''US university, torture and killing of two fishermen allegedlyby Sri Lankan Navy and the efforts being made to bring backIndians from Egypt were some of the issue discussed.
Swaraj indicated that she was satisfied with the effortsmade by the government.
On the issue of bringing back Indians based in Egypt,which is facing political unrest and anti-government protests,Swaraj said, "The External Affairs Minister told me that fromour side we will make all efforts. Three planes have beenpressed into service."
The BJP leader said Krishna informed her that he had sentForeign Secretary Nirupama Rao to Sri Lanka to take up theissue of killing and torture of Indian fishermen.
Krishna informed Swaraj that he had told the US in"unequivocal terms" that the treatment given to Indianstudents was unacceptable to India. "He told me categoricallythat we cannot allow any such treatment to Indians livingoutside India." PTI RC
