Indian jailed in UK for entering into fake marriage
London, Feb 1 (PTI) An Indian national was jailed for16 months by a UK court for conspiring to breach the Britishimmigration laws by entering into a fake marriage in order tostay in the country.
The woman whom he intended to marry was also sent to14 months imprisonment.
The prosecution was part of the UK Border Agency''senforcement action against people involved in smuggling,illegal working and fake marriages.
"Where we uncover suspicious marriages we willchallenge them and prosecute where appropriate. We take thiskind of abuse of the immigration system very seriously, and weare working closely with churches and registrars to identifysuspect fake marriages," a UK Border Agency spokesperson said.
