Srinagar, Feb 2 (PTI) The Indian Air Force today carriedout several sorties to airlift 62 passengers stranded in Gurezsector of Jammu and Kashmir''s Bandipora district, near Line ofControl.
"Sixty-two stranded passengers were airlifted betweenBandipora and Gurez in IAF''s Mi-17 helicopter," an officialspokesman said here.
Most of the people, who were rescued, were old-aged,patients, ladies and children, he said.
The Gurez sub division had got cut-off from rest of theValley following recent snowfall.
Meanwhile, 162 passengers were airlifted in IAF''s AN-32Kargil Courier service. As many as 36 passengers wereairlifted from Kargil to Jammu, 53 from Jammu to Kargil, 29from Kargil to Srinagar and 44 passengers from Srinagar toKargil.
During the closure of Sonamarg-Gumri road, the IAFoperates weekly air courier service between Kargil and Jammuevery Tuesday and thrice a week between Kargil and Srinagar onevery Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, subject to fair weather.
