New Delhi, Feb 2 (PTI) Delhi government today asked MCD toimplement the guidelines on 25 per cent quota for studentsfrom economically weaker section in those primary publicschools which have been functioning after getting recognitionfrom the civic body.
It also asked the corporation to furnish a list of schoolsviolating the guidelines.
This was decided in a review meeting chaired by ChiefMinister Sheila Dikshit. Delhi Education Minister ArvinderSingh Lovely, Principal Secretary (Education) Rakesh Mohan andMCD Commissioner K S Mehra attended it.
Briefing the media, Dikshit said the MCD has been told toimplement the EWS admission process in true spirit as it ismandatory with the enforcement of Right to Education Act.
The MCD has also been instructed to ensure suchadmissions, as necessity of EWS admission is much in respectof the civic body, she said.
"The MCD will furnish a list of violating schools so thataction could be initiated," Dikshit said.
The Chief Minister said process of such admissions will"stabilise". The government is committed to ensuring benefitto the students coming from economically weaker section, theChief Minister said.
She said EWS quota is also applicable to minority schools.
The government has repeatedly said that private schoolswill have to follow the guidelines for reserving 25 per centof total nursery seats for EWS and it will act if complaintsabout non-compliance are brought before it.
Lovely had earlier said the government will not hesitateto derecognise any private school if it finds that thedirectives are not being followed.
Some private schools in the city had refused to abide bythe government directive in reserving the seats claiming thatthe provision of RTE cannot be enforced on them.
