Cops, transferred from Goa airport still report on duty

Panaji, Feb 2 (PTI) Four tainted cops posted at theimmigration counter in Goa airport, who were transferred forallegedly demanding money from foreigners on visa on landingare still working there due to administrative lapses.

Sources said two head constables and two constables weretransferred recently from Immigration counter of Goa airportafter police establishment board recommended their transfer.

Although 15 days have passed after the transfer order,the cops are still working there.

Superintendent of Police (Immigration) Tony Fernandessaid that the transfer cannot be executed as the departmenthas not given the replacement for them.

"We are receiving around 10-15 chartered flights everyday. I need someone to replace them if they are shifted out ofairport," he said.

Police sources said that seniors had filed a confidentialreport against these cops for demanding money from foreignerson visa on landing.

"The police establishment board have taken strongcognisance of their act and had recommended their transfer," asenior official said adding that all the four have beenworking there for last 10 years.

Fernandes, however, said that the transfer was not due tocorruption charges but because they have completed theirtenure at the airport posting.
