Construction worker injured at Eden after scuffle

Kolkata, Feb 1 (PTI) A construction worker at the EdenGardens was seriously injured following a scuffle with aco-worker as he fell down from one of the galleries duringrenovation work.

The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) refused tocomment on the incident, even as eye-witnesses said the workerwas injured after falling from galleries near B and C blocks.

The workers were engaged by separate contractors,sources said.

When contacted, in-charge of stadium renovation workChitrak Mitra refused to confirm this.

"Now, do I have to keep a tab on what is happeningwith the construction workers," he said.

Mitra had been busy in Mumbai for some personal work whenICC inspectors were at the Eden in their final round of visitbefore dropping the venue for India vs England match.

The February 27 fixture has now been shifted toBangalore.

The fate on remaining three non-India matches in Marchis subject to approval by the ICC team who will again visitthe venue in three phases on February 7, 14 and 22.

Meanwhile, an Army team also visited the Eden Gardensbattling to be ready for the World Cup and assured all supportto the CAB.

The CAB has a 15-year lease with the Indian Army whoowns the Eden Gardens land.
