Patna, Feb 2 (PTI) Observing that the people have lostconfidence in the Congress-led UPA government due to itsfailure to tackle corruption and price rise, the BJP todaysaid that mid-term poll was the only way to restore thepublic faith in governance at the national level.
"The people are baffled at the Centre''s handling ofthe twin problems of price rise and corruption prevailing inthe country and have lost faith in the UPA government," thesenior BJP leader and the party''s state unit President C.P.
Thakur said at a press conference.
The Centre has been guilty of not tackling corruptionand price rise with the seriousness that these issuesdeserved but it has also erred by downplaying them much tothe bewilderment of the common man, he said.
Under the prevailing political circumstances where theCentre simply appeared to lack the will to tackle variousproblems, it will be fair to give another opportunity to thepeople to elect a government of their choice by holdingmid-term polls, Thakur said.
The senior BJP leader said that his advocacy formid-term polls was his personal opinion, but added that thesaffron party leadership may not disagree with his viewpointas they too have been critical of the UPA government''shandling of corruption and price rise.
Referring to the BJP workers conference to be held atthe Gandhi Maidan on February five next, Thakur said that theevent was being held to felicitate the cadres of the state andacknowledge their efforts in the party''s best-ever pollperformance during Bihar assembly polls.
The function, being attended by top BJP leadership,including the national president Nitin Gadkari, Leader ofopposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley, will help the partykeep its machinery geared in a ready mode for future electoralbattles, including the mid term polls, if at all one wascalled for by the Centre, Thakur said.
