Itanagar, Feb 2 (PTI) The Akhil Bharatiya Adiwasi VikasParishad (ABAVP) has demanded the Centre to constitute aseparate committee for North Eastern states involving triballeaders for effective monitoring of all tribal developmentprojects in the region.
"We want that every penny spent for tribal development inthe region should be utilized judiciously and the fruits ofdevelopment should percolate to the real beneficiaries," ABAVPnational president Somjibhai Damor told a Press conferencehere today.
He said, the Parishad with 28 state-level branchesincluding two zonal offices (Northeast and South) is workingfor economic emancipation of over 11 crore tribal populationin the country and to unite them.
"The plans and programmes for tribals should be need-basedand we want that the Centre should consult us beforesanctioning any projects for us," he said and added thatsitting at Delhi one cannot feel the real need of tribalsresiding in remote corners of the country.
Damor, who arrived here yesterday, interacted with across section of people to get first hand information on theirstatus of living and problems faced.
"We are shocked that majority of the people in the statestill unaware of various benefits for them and still living inpathetic conditions," he informed while demanding adequatecompensation and suitable rehabilitation package from thestate government for the people who are likely to be affectedby upcoming power projects in the state.
