16 cops injured in stone pelting after raid on oil depot

Nagpur, Feb 1 (PTI) Sixteen policemen, including twoofficers, were injured today when a mob attacked them withstones when their team raided a kerosene depot near here aspart of the crackdown on oil mafia in the wake of murder of anadditional collector in Nashik last month.

The incident took place at Rajurwadi, about 25 km fromhere, when a group of unidentified people, suspected to belocal oil mafia, began pelting stones on the team and damagedtwo of their vehicles, police said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Sudhakar Palandurkarand Inspector Madhukar Gite were among the 16 policemeninjured in the attack, they said.

The attack took place this morning when the team wasreturning after raiding the depot and seizing kerosene, policesaid, adding the situation was brought under control afteradditional force was sent to the site.

The raids on oil adulteration mafia across Maharashtrawere launched by authorities after the brutal killing ofYashwant Sonawane by the members of oil mafia in Manmad onJanuary 25.
