Hyderabad, Feb 1 (PTI)The Police here today registered acase against 13 prisoners of Cherlapalli Central Jail forallegedly attacking the prison staff inside the Jail.
While three Prison Officers including a DeputySuperintendent sustained serious injuries, eight othersreceived minor injuries when a group of 22 prisoners havingalleged links with Pakistan�s Inter-Services Intelligence(ISI) attacked the Jail staff yesterday, Jail Superintendent KL Srinivas Rao told PTI today.
Three Prison Officers, a Deputy Superintendent and twodeputy jailers, were undergoing treatment at Nizam�s Instituteof Medical Sciences (NIMS) while the remaining were treated inthe Out-patient department in the Jail hospital, he said.
The trouble began after the Cherlapalli Jail personnelstarted checking the Papagni barracks where ISI agents andterror suspects are lodged, on a tip off that some of theinmates were carrying out illegal activities like usingcellphones in their cells.
However, when the jail staff was conducting the check,the prisoners there attacked them using stones, sticks andeven cricket bats.
The situation was brought under control yesterday itself,the Jail Superintendent said.
Following a complaint by Jail authorities, the Khusaigudapolice today registered a case against 13 prisoners undervarious sections including 147 (rioting), 148 (armed withdeadly weapon), 333 (voluntarily causing grievoushurt to deter public servant from duty) and 307 (attempt tomurder) of IPC, Khusaiguda Police said.
Meanwhile, former union minister and BJP leader BandaruDattatreya today demanded a high level inquiry into the attackon jail officers and to find out as to how the prisoners interror and mafia cases were getting cellpones inside the jail.
Expressing concern over the incident, Dattatreyaalleged it was state government''s inefficiency that prisonershaving alleged links with ISI were freely carrying out illegalactivities like using cellphones inside the jail premises.
He asked the government to keep the alleged terrorsuspects and other prisoners involved in ISI activities in aspecial prison and not along with other inmates.
In the attack by prisoners inside the Cherlapalli jailyesterday, Deputy Superintendent Hanumantha Rao and anotherjail official Srinivas received serious injuries while aconstable, Praveen, was battling for life in the hospital,Dattatreya said in a statement here.
