Three get 7-yr RI in Cuttack porno CD case

Cuttack, Jan 31 (PTI) A fast track court here todaysentenced three persons to rigorous imprisonment (RI) forseven years each in the sensational Khan Nagar pornographic CDcase which led a 22-year-old woman commit suicide in 2008.

The Fast Track court headed by Biranchi Narayan Mishrafound the accused guilty under Section 306 (abetting suicide),34 (common intention), 500 (defamation) and 417 (cheating) ofthe IPC and Section 6 of Indecent Representation of Women Act.

�������� Besides the RI, Prime accused Astaraga Sahu (26) wasfined Rs 10,000, Rs 5000, Rs 1000 and Rs 500 for separatecharges he was convicted.

Two other accused, CD parlour owner Manas Sahu and hisassociate Amaresh Sahu, were found guilty on all counts exceptunder cheating charges. The court, however, exoneratedAstarag�s associate Subrat Pradhan for lack of evidence.

Mass communication student Asima Mohanty had hangedherself in her Khan Nagar resident on August 13, 2008. Herfather lodged a police complaint that his daughter did this asshe was being blackmailed by Astaraga and his friends afterrecording her obscene photographs and circulating them in greymarket by making CDs.

Astaraga was was an acquaintance of the girl''s familyand was closed to the girl for several months. After coaxingthe girl to have sex with him, he recorded it sometimes inOctober 2007 with a hidden camera and made CDs of it whichwere then sold to the local market as well as in Kolkata.

Police had recovered at least seven CDs from a videoparlour in Badambadi bus terminus area.
