LUCKNOW, INDIA: At least seven youths were killed and over 12 injured when they fell down from the roof of two speeding trains near the Indian city of Lucknow on Tuesday, the Times of India reported.

The victims, who were returning from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) recruitment drive in the town of Bareilly, were thrown off as the train passed under a low over-bridge, police said.

The ITBP aspirants torched two coaches of an express train following the accident.

Earlier, thousands of aspirants had converged at Bareilly, causing a major congestion at both rail and road terminals. A number of these aspirants, alleging mismanagement in the recruitment drive, fought pitched battles with police, torched around six state-owned buses, and damaged shops.

Hundreds of young men perched on top of the high-speed train to return home after all the train coaches were packed.
