Kolkata, Jan 31 (PTI) West Bengal PWD today set up afive-member committee to assist the Cricket Association ofBengal (CAB) in getting the Eden Gardens ready ahead of theICC team''s visit here on February 7.
Announcing this here today, state PWD minister KshitiGoswami said the committee, comprising of experts, wouldensure that the CAB complete all pending works in the stadiumto get the venue ready for the Cup three matches in March.
The move came after the venue''s first match on February27 between India and England had been shifted to Bangalore.
"The state PWD has stepped in to help the CAB followingrequests by its president Jagmohan Dalmiya to complete thepending works in the Eden Gardens ahead of the ICC team''svisit on February 7," Goswami said.
The group B match between India and England wasoriginally scheduled at the Eden Gardens for February 27. Buton January 27, the ICC ruled out Kolkata as a host venue afterits inspection team deemed the stadium unfit and expressedconcerns about the facilities in the ground.
Goswami expressed confidence that work would be completedbefore February 7, and said there would be no problem inholding the remaining matches.
