CPI-IW registers increase of three points in December 2010

Shimla, Jan 31 (PTI) The All India Consumer Price Indexfor Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) with base 2000-100 registeredan increase of three points during December 2010 to stand at185 due to increase in prices of foodgrains, fruits,vegetables and onion.

The point-to-point rate of inflation for Decemberincreased to 9.47 per cent as compared to 8.33 per cent inNovember 2010 while food index rose to 7.98 per cent against5.35 per cent in November 2010.

The twelve monthly averages also rose to 176, entitlingcentral and state government to six percent additional DA fromJanuary 1, 2011.

During December, 2010, the index recorded an increase of9 points in Quilon centre, 8 points in Guntur centre, 7 pointseach in Tiruchirapally, Vadodara and Belgaum centres and 6points in 4 centres on account of increase in prices of rice,coconut oil, fish, onion, vegetables and fruits, tea andfirewood while it decreased by 2 points each in Koderma andTripura centres and remained stationary in nine centres.

The indices in respect of the six major centres are asfollows: Ahmedabad 183, Bangalore 186, Chennai 169, Delhi169, Kolkata 180, Mumbai 184.
