Allegations of links with Maoists ''totally wrong'', says Mamata

Kolkata, Jan 31 (PTI) Trinamool Congress chief MamataBanerjee today rubbished her party''s alleged links withMaoists and condemned the police lathicharge, which injuredseveral party supporters and journalists in Midnapore towntoday.

"It is all a story that two Trinamool Congress men hadbeen arrested from the relief camp run by the party. It istotally wrong," Banerjee said.

She said she would shortly visit the town to stand by her"tortured" party workers and protest against "ransacking" ofthe Trinamool-run relief camp.

Banerjee said the camp had been opened there by theTrinamool Congress to shelter women who had been "tortured" byCPI(M) activists.

"The CPI-M has politicised the police administration,though I will not say all policemen are bad. The situationthere is very serious and the administration has ''enforced'' anundeclared curfew in the entire Midnapore town," she alleged.

"Led by the DSP (operations) in West Midnapore district,state police personnel and the CRPF had ransacked the reliefcamp. They have dragged women inmates in the relief camp bytheir hair. One of my party workers Mangal Hembrom receivedbullet injuries," she said, condemning the police lathichargeon journalists, injuring five of them.

Police said 11 persons, including five journalists, wereinjured when they had to lathicharge to remove a road blockadeby some Trinamool Congress workers, shortly after the combinedsecurity forces arrested two inmates of a Trinamool-run reliefcamp located in a guest house in the town for their allegedlinks with Maoists.
