Tourist spots in Mumbai to have a face-lift
Mumbai, Jan 31 (PTI) Several tourist spots in thesuburbs, including Kanheri caves, Sanjay Gandhi National Park,Juhu Chowpaty, Powai Lake and Goregaon Film City would soonget a face-lift.
"It was decided in the meeting of the DistrictPlanning and Development Council (DPDC) to beautify 17tourists spots in the suburbs, at the expense of Rs sixcrore," Guardian Minister of the suburbs, Naseem Khan todaysaid.
The DPDC has sanctioned Rs 133 crore for variousdevelopment works in the suburbs. In a new initiative, itwould give Rs two lakh each to five students from backwardclasses every year as an educational scholarship.
About 19 MLAs and MLCs, and two MPs were present forthe meeting. However, the Municipal Commissioner Subodh Kumar,and Police Commissioner Sanjeev Dayal remained absent.
Miffed with the non-presence of the top officials, theopposition Shiv Sena MLAs tried to stop the proceedings.
"We are going to make a complaint to Chief MinisterPrithviraj Chavan about this," Shiv Sena MLC Ramdas Kadamsaid. PTI SSG KRK
