Panaji, Jan 31 (PTI) A 27-year-old Russian woman wassaved from drowning at the Ashew beach, 40 kms away from here,officials said today.
Mila Usenko Bkrainy was rescued from the choppy waters onSaturday afternoon by lifeguards at the beach after she calledfor the help.
The Russian was swimming in the no-swimming zone areawhen she was pulled inside by the currents, the spokesman forDrishti Special Response Services said.
Drishti has been given the contract of beach managementacross state''s coastline, frequented by tourists.
The spokesman said the woman was swimming close to apoint where the creek meets the sea and therefore got caughtin the rip current.
"The victim was informed about the consistency of the ripcurrent but she ignored the lifeguard�s warnings and continuedto swim ahead. The lifeguard informed the tower and a Jet Skiwas launched to keep a close watch over her," the spokesmansaid.
After a while the Russian was caught in the current andexperienced difficulty while swimming back ashore.
Lifeguards had already launched the Jet Ski and werepatrolling close to the incident spot.
The call from the lifeguard at the point was anticipatedby the Jet Ski which immediately secured her with the help ofthe rescue sled and dropped her back to the shore.
There were no injuries found on her and she was releasedafter a safety advice of staying away from the particularspot, the spokesman added.
