Yavatmal, Jan 31(PTI) In a joint action, officials of theRevenue, Police and RTO Departments here conducted surpriseinspection of vehicles on Saturday and found that 14 out of 31vehicles inspected were running on kerosene.
The officials also inspected six petrol pumps in the cityand collected samples of petrol and diesel to find out ifthere was adulteration in the fuel supplied through theiroutlets.
According to the Yavatmal Taluka Supply Officer DilipZade, he had received complaints about the unabated use ofkerosene in the vehicles and adulteration by the oil mafiaoperating across the district.
"To ascertain the veracity of these complaints, we haveset up a joint squad to check the vehicles in the city," hesaid, adding that 14 of the 31 vehicles checked were foundusing kerosene.
The samples of fuel collected from the vehicles and thepetrol pumps would be sent to Nagpur-based GovernmentLaboratory and a course of action would be decided afterreceiving the test report, sources said.
Meantime, the Pusad police have registered a criminaloffence against one Vithal Yadhav (26) and seized two canscontaining 25 litres each of petrol and diesel.
The accused was carrying the fuel on his bike and hefailed to tell the cops about the source of the fuel which ledthe police to arrest him.
