Govt probing if agents duped students

New Delhi, Jan 30 (PTI) Government is probing ifagents were involved in duping the Indian students who arestranded in the US after the university in which they hadenrolled was charged with immigration fraud and will take firmagainst them.

Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi todaysaid he has asked the Indian Mission in Washington to seewhether any agent in Andhra Pradesh was involved in theincident.

"If agents are involved from Andhra Pradesh, I willask the Chief Minister to immediately prosecute the agents,"he told reporters after meeting Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MKarunanidhi.

He said the US authorities are wrong in confiscatingpassports from the students of Tri-Valley University who facethe prospect of deportation after the university was chargedwith immigration fraud.

"The actions by the US authorities are condemnable.

It is inhuman and unacceptable.

They should not tie any radiotag on their body. I am told it is very heavy and it isimpossible to carry," he said.

"They (students) are not going to run away," he said.

He said the Indian Embassy in Washington will send areport tomorrow or on Tuesday about the incident after which adecision will be taken.
