Kannur, Jan 29 (PTI) I-League debutants AIFF XI edged outa fighting Viva Kerala with the help of a late solitary goalat the Nehru Municipal stadium here today.
Medio Subodh Kumar scored the all-important goal in the86th minute of the match to fetch his side full points andtheir first win away from home.
Viva had to blame themselves for the defeat as theymissed a number of opportunities, much to the dismay of thehome fans.
AIFF XI are made up of India Under-19 and 23 players andformed with the aim of preparing for FIFA World Cup 2018qualification.
The goal for the inexperienced visitors, due to bechristened Indian Arrows from February 1, came when Subodhconverted a free-kick arising out of a foul on him, whichbeat Viva custodian Shemin Lal Meloli hands down.
However, Viva were unlucky not to have found the targetin the 42nd minute as none of the home side''s frontliners werethere to latch on to a brilliant cross by O K Javid. Onanother occasion, Javid''s fierce drive missed the target byinches.
