Jalandhar, Jan 29 (PTI) Congress today said the HighCourt''s order for a CBI inquiry into the custodial death ofRoor Singh, an acccused in fake currency racket, proved thatthe state police was "puppet" in the hands of those in power.
"This decision of the court has proved that the statepolice doesn''t work for the common man. It is like a puppet inthe hands of those in power," Punjab Cogress MLA Sukhpal Singhsaid.
The decision to get a CBI inquiry done by the Punjab andHarayana High Court''s in the case shows that it doesn''t trustthe state police for the investigation, he said.
Police had taken more than an year to investigate intothe case and then submitted a "wrong report", he said, addingthe common man had lost confidence in the government.
Roor Singh of Nurpur Jattan village was arrested bypolice in connection with a fake currency case and had died inDhilwan police station in Kapurthala district allegedly due topoisoning during his detention in September 2009.
The court yesterday observed that police personnel onduty had not given a truthful and acceptable version andhanded over the inquiry to the CBI.
