New Delhi, Jan 29 (PTI) A photograph clicked during amarriage ceremony led to the arrest of a snatcher in centralDelhi, police said today.
The arrested has been identified as Gunjan (20), aresident of Paharganj. He allegedly stole a bag during amarriage reception in Ambedkar Bhawan in Aram Bagh onThursday.
"The mother of the bridegroom had placed a whitecolour bag containing cash and envelopes containing money on achair and all the family members went up the stage for a groupphoto. In the meantime a boy came there and took away thebag," a senior police official said.
There was a gathering of around 600-700 people at themarriage reception ceremony and it was very difficult to checkand question each and every guest.
"It was thought appropriate to immediately examine thestill and video images captured by photographers. After minuteexamination, police zeroed in on a person in one of thepictures," the official said.
This photograph was identified by a Beat HeadConstable as that of one Gunjan, who was later arrested.
"Gunjan told police that he used to lift bagscontaining cash and valuables in marriage parties since guestsusually come from different places and do not prefer to reportthe matter to police.
"He also disclosed about snatching away the purse andmobile phones and was also arrested on one such occasion bypolice in a snatching case. His modus operandi is to enter inmarriage parties and lift the bags lying unattended. He usedto target the valuables carried by ladies," he said.
