Shivpuri(MP), Jan 30 (PTI) Over a dozen Congressmen wereinjured following a cane charge by the police at a functionorganised to dedicate a girls'' hostel at Sesai village nearhere.
Police lobbed tear gas shells and resorted to canecharge to disperse the Congressmen, who were angry after thename of local MP and Union Minister of State JyotiradityaScindia did not figure in the dedication plaque of the girls''hostel, constructed with the Central fund.
Police resorted to cane charge after the protesters triedto disrupt the function which was attended by Madhya PradeshMinister Narottam Mishra.
There was a minor scuffle between the police andprotesters after which the former lobbed tear gas shells andresorted to cane charge, police sources said.
Congress leader Harveer Singh claimed that he alongwith former MLA Virendra Raghuvanshi and former NSUI districtpresident Rajiv Sharma among others sustained injuries in thecane charge.
Ignoring the protests, Mishra later inaugurated thehostel.
