New Delhi, Jan 29 (PTI) Congress today kept at armslength the issue of former Maharashtra Chief Minister AshokChavan''s name figuring in an FIR in the Adarsh scam, saying itis a process and law will take its own course.

"It''a legal process. Law is taking its own course. Lawshould take its own course and we do hope law will take itsown course," party spokesperson Shakeel Ahmed told reportershere.

He was responding to questions on CBI naming threesenior retired Army officers, an ex-Collector and 10 othersamong the 13 accused and mentioning Chavan in an FIR in thescam registered today.

CBI had declined to disclose whether Chavan, who hadto resign in the wake of the housing scandal, figures as anaccused or is mentioned in the FIR otherwise. Some sources inthe agency maintained he was among the accused but this wasnot officially confirmed.

Asked about the controversy over the appointment of PJ Thomas as Central Vigilance Commissioner, Ahmed said thematter is between the court and the government.

"Our stand is same. It is not the decision ofCongress. A government panel of three eminent persons decidedto appoint him. It is a matter between the government and theCourt. A party comments on some decision of the court but itis not appropriate for a political party to comment on day-to-day proceedings," Ahmed said.

Asked whether the case was an embarrassment to theparty, Ahmed replied in negative, adding, the government willprovide all documents regarding his appointment to the court.

"In its wisdom, the Supreme Court will decide how to proceedinto the matter and everybody would abide by it," he said.

The spokesperson also asked opposition BJP "not togive daily commentary" on court proceedings into the issue.

On senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj''s decision to filean affidavit in the SC countering the government''s claim thatrecords on the corruption case against Thomas were not withthe selection panel, Ahmed said, "everybody has a right toapproach the court. When she files it, it will be on the courtto decide whether he affidavit has merits or not." PTI AMR ZMN
