New Delhi, Jan 29 (PTI) India today said its nationalsin Egypt, which is witnessing violent protests since last fourdays, are safe but advised its people against travelling tothat country.
"The Embassy of India in Cairo, is in touch withmembers of the Indian community, who are reported to be safe.
There are about 3600 People of Indian Origin (PIO) in Egypt,of which some 2200 are in Cairo.
"In view of the prevailing situation in Egypt, Indiannationals are advised to avoid non-essential travel to Egyptfor the present...," a statement by the External AffairsMinistry said here.
Indian embassy has also set-up a round-the-clockControl Room for information, the statement said.
At least 27 people have been killed in the clashes andover hundreds injured. Around 1,000 protesters were arrestedacross the country since the protests broke out four days ago.
