Yechury says Govt''s stand in SC on CVC ''inexplicable''
New Delhi, Jan 27 (PTI) The CPI(M) today said it was"inexplicable" as to how the government was saying it was notaware of the charges against Chief Vigilance Commissioner P JThomas while appointing him to the post.
"It is inexplicable. We can''t really understand howthe government is saying that they were not aware of certainmatters," CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury said here.
He was reacting to the affidavit filed by AttorneyGeneral G E Vahanvati in the Supreme Court that the high-powered selection committee was not aware of the charges inthe Palmolein export case pending against Thomas in Keralawhile appointing him to the post.
"Everybody involved in the matter should come cleanbecause this is a position (of the CVC) that should commandrespect, that should command fear. It cannot be under acloud", Yechury said.
He did not comment any further saying the matter issub-judice.
The Centre for Public Interest Litigation, an NGO, andothers have challenged Thomas'' appointment as the CVC, citingthe Pamolein import corruption case in which the top-rankingofficial is an accused.
