Two involved in fake currency racket arrested in Kashmir

Srinagar, Jan 27 (PTI) Two persons, allegedly involved ina fake currency racket, were arrested and counterfeit noteswith face value of Rs 2.46 lakhs recovered from theirpossession in Anantnag district of south Kashmir, police saidtoday.

"Police has unearthed a major racket involving printingand circulation of fake currency in Anantnag-Kulgam area ofKashmir," a police spokesman said.

Acting on credible intelligence inputs, policeapprehended two persons -- Amir Altaf Mir and Mehraj-ud-DinSofi, residents of Batangoo in Anantnag district and recoveredfake currency notes with face value of Rs 2,46,000 from theirpossession, the spokesman said.

"During interrogation, the duo disclosed that they wereinvolved in printing and circulation of fake currency noteswith one Farooq Ahmad Dar, resident of Batangoo," he said.

Dar is an employee in the Public Health Engineering (PHE)Department at Anantnag, the spokesman said, adding that raidsare being conducted to nab him.

More arrests are expected in the coming days, he added.
