Former Punjab minister Prem Gupta dead
Patiala, Jan 27 (PTI) Former minister of Punjab andsenior politician Prem Gupta passed away here today afterbrief illness.
He was 73.
Gupta was a Member of Legislative Council (MLC) ofPunjab before the state switched to a unicameral system oflegislature in 1969. He was also Congress MLA from Patialafrom 1972 to 1977. He was elected MLA from Rajpura on an Akaliticket in 1985 and also served as Minister of State in theGovernment led By Surjit Singh Barnala.
Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal expressed shockat the sudden demise of the leader.
In a condolence message, Badal described Gupta as an ableadministrator who worked for the welfare of the downtrodden.
Former Deputy Speaker of Punjab Assembly Bir DevinderSingh also condoled Gupta''s death, describing it as a personalloss to him.
