Bollywood producer complains of threats from overseas

Mumbai, Jan 27 (PTI) A non-cognisable (NC) offence wasregistered against unidentified persons today after filmproducer Shakeel Noorani complained of receiving death threatsover phone.

An anonymous caller asked him to withdraw the case filedagainst actor Sanjay Dutt, Noorani has alleged.

"NC was registered against unidentified persons afterNoorani filed the complaint. He showed us the number, it is aforeign phone number," said Gnyanesh Patil, Inspector atsuburban Oshiwara police station.

"Noorani claimed that caller asked him to withdraw thecomplaint filed against Sanjay Dutt." The case has beenregistered under section 507 (criminal intimidation by ananonymous communication) of the IPC, said Patil.

Speaking to PTI, Noorani claimed that the caller wasassociated with underworld. "The caller claimed that he wascalling from Karachi and told me to withdraw case againstDutt."

Noorani had earlier approached Indian Motion PicturesProducers'' Association (IMPPA) against Sanjay Dutt. Theproducer had sought back Rs 2.03 crore, which included Rs 50lakh paid to the actor as a signing amount for the film, ''JaanKi Baazi''.

The producer alleged Dutt did not give dates for theshoot, so the film remained incomplete. IMPPA passed order inNoorani''s favour on January 28 last year.

He then applied to High Court for execution of the IMPPAdecree, following which the execution department of the HighCourt attached some of Dutt''s properties.
