Mumbai, Jan 27 (PTI) A sharp-shooter hailing fromUttar Pradesh was today arrested for allegedly possessingsophisticated firearms, supposed to be delivered to the ChhotaRajan gang, Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad said.
On a tip off, ATS officials laid a trap at the A-IDarbar hotel in suburban Oshiwara and nabbed Avinash Mishra(31).
"Two foreign-make pistols, five revolvers and 28live rounds were found in his possession," ATS chief RakeshMaria said.
During the interrogation, the accused said that he hadcome here to deliver the firearms to the members of Rajangang.
"Although he claimed that he was here to deliver theweapons, we suspect that Mishra could be planning somethingbig as possessing seven sophisticated weapons just fordelivery is not likely," Maria added.
Mishra has confessed to two murders in Delhi andGaziabad and an attempt to murder in Bihar, where duringelections in 2009 he had fired at one Manoj Dubey, a campaignmanager of a local politician, Maria said.
"Mishra is a contract killer and had been given thecontract to kill Dubey," said Maria. .
The ATS chief also said that Mishra had been arrested in a murder case in 2008, and in the jail, he met gangsterSushil Pandey, and joined his gang. Pandey supplies weapons tothe Chhota Rajan gang.
"Mishra was not directly in contact with ChhotaRajan," Maria said, adding that he had been staying in Wapiand Porbander in Gujarat for the past one year.
Mishra has been booked under the Arms Act, and wasproduced before a local court which remanded him to policecustody till February 2. PTI VMKRK
