13 countries to vie for World Cup Kabaddi: Sukhbir Badal

Jalandhar, Jan 27 (PTI) Punjab Deputy Chief MinisterSukhbir Singh Badal today said that 13 countries have giventheir consent to participate in the Kabaddi World Cup to beheld in Punjab soon.

Addressing a public gathering here, Badal said thatSAD-BJP Government has catapult Kabaddi to the world map byorganising World Cup Kabaddi last year.

"Besides the World Cup, Kabaddi League will also beorganised in Punjab soon," he said.

Speaking about traditional games of Punjab, Badal,President of the Shiromani Akali Dal, said that new SportsPolicy of the State was focused on providing sufficient numberof astroturf surfaces all over the state so that buddingtalent of hockey could get practice on astroturf.

He said that government was committed to restorepre-eminence of Punjab hockey players in the Indian hockeyteam.

Focusing on nurturing traditional games at grassrootlevel, Badal said that for the first time Punjab Government isorganizing Shaheed�e-Azam Bhagat Singh Punjab Games fromFebruary 28 in which players from ten disciplines of the gameswould vie for Rs 25 lakh price in each game.
