Medininagar (Jharkhand), Jan 27 (PTI) Palamu districtpolice had seized altogether 140 arms and over 500 livecartridges from extremists and criminals during raidsconducted during the year 2010, a senior police officer saidtoday.
Talking to newsmen on the sidelines of an arms exhibitionorganized by the district police today, Superintendent ofPolice Anup T Mathew said the recovered arms included 25automatic pistols, 10 revolvers, six regular rifles, onecarbines.
Over 500 rounds of ammunition were also seized duringthese raids conducted in extremists bastion as well ascriminals dens in the district.
DIG (Palamu) Laxman Prasad Singh has rewarded 21 policemenfor the exemplary performance during the year.
Speaking on the occasion, Singh said the district policehas recommended the state government for speedy trials ofextremists and criminals arrested during the raids and hasproposal to impose Criminal Control Act against hard-corecriminals.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the DeputyCommissioner, Puja Singhal Purwar said only twodistricts-Palamu and Chatra- were affected by naxalism whenJharkhand state was carved out of Bihar in 2000.
However, 18 districts of the state were today affected bythe menace, she said emphasizing the need for development withproper law and order to tackle extremism.
