Governor urges the three J&K regions to unite for peace

Jammu, Jan 25 (PTI) Amidst demands for trifurcation ofJammu and Kashmir on regional lines, Governor N N Vohra todayurged people of all three regions of the state to join handsto resolve all contentious issues and bring sustained peaceand normalcy to the state.

"I urge all segments of society in all the three regionsto join hands to build a strong stable and prosperous Jammuand Kashmir to make it a model state for the entire country toemulate," he said here on the eve of the 62nd Republic Day.

"I pray that the coming time shall see the resolution ofall contentious issues and bring sustained peace and normalcyto the state," Vohra said.

The Governor said that for achieving peace, progress andprosperity, the Government and the Opposition, as well as allreligious, cultural and social organisations in the Statewould need to work closely together.

"The people of Jammu and Kashmir have suffered theconsequences of violence for a long time now. We mustrecognise that issues involving contrary positions cannot beresolved through violent agitations and confrontations," hesaid, adding that it was time to resolve all issues peacefullythrough conciliation and meaningful dialogue.

He said in the recent months, the Union government hadestablished Task Forces for Ladakh and Jammu regions,appointed a three-member team of Interlocutors and announcedan eight-point formula for addressing some of the pressingissues relating to Kashmir.

The State Government has welcomed all these initiatives,he added.
