Christian Community thanks Supreme Court for expunging remarks

Mumbai, Jan 25 (PTI)The Christian Community todaythanked the Supreme Court for acknowledging and taking intoconsideration the apprehensions of the community about theremarks made by the Judges in delivering the verdict on theDara Singh case recently.

"The Honourable Judges said though they did not intendto, but the meaning could be misconstrued to be impliedotherwise and could be used out of context and thereforeexpunged it," Dr Abraham Mathai,General Secretary of All IndiaChristian Council told PTI.

The Supreme Court today expunged two controversialsentences in its ruling on the killings of Australianmissionary Graham Staines and his two minor sons, which hadupheld the life imprisonment for Bajrang Dal activist DaraSingh and his accomplice.

Expunging the second last sentence of paragraph 43 ofthe 76-page ruling, a bench of Justices P Sathasivam and B SChauhan replaced it by saying, "After 12 years, the lifeimprisonment given by the high court, need not be interferedwith."

"Christian community had expressed shock at the remarksof Supreme Court which seems to justify the intentions of DaraSingh" he said.
