Kolkata, Jan 25 (PTI) Anusuya Sen, mother of jailedrights activist Binayak Sen, today feared that fresh chargesmay be slapped on her son if he gets bail from theChhattisgarh High Court.
"We are afraid that even if he is granted bail, he maybe put behind bars with fresh charges," she told reportershere.
Claiming that Binayak Sen neither believed in violencenor had any links with the Maoists, she said he had beenframed for working "uncompromisingly" for the poor.
Asked about Binayak Sen''s links with Maoist leaderNarayan Sanyal, she said his son was bound by a HippocraticOath as a doctor to treat ailing people and he had visitedSanyal in jail as he was ailing.
On seeking the intervention of President PratibhaPatil or Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to free her son, shesaid, "If it is absolutely necessary, I will go to them as amother and seek their mercy. I believe, however, that they areaware of my son''s innocence. So shouldn''t they act on theirown to bring him out of jail?"
Sen said the charge against her daughter-in-law Ilinaof sheltering foreign nationals was "unfair."
"My daughter-in-law had organised a conference onwomen''s studies where she had invited three foreign nationalsto give talks. So, she has become a suspect. They are afterIlina. This is very unfair on the family," 84-year-old Sensaid.
Expressing satisfaction at the world-wide demand forher son''s release, Sen demanded the unconditional releaseof all prisoners languishing in jails without trial.
Supporting the demand for Binayak Sen''s release, poetand Sahitya Academy awardee Sankha Ghosh said, "I cannotimagine that a person like Binayak Sen who had served the poorwithout thinking about his personal comforts, could be soharassed.
