Officer wants to marry US-based girl, moves HC against Army
Mumbai, Jan 25 (PTI) The Bombay High Court todaydirected the Indian Army to file reply before February22 in a petition filed by a serving officer, Major YogeshChandra Madhav Sayankar, seeking a release from service andpermission to marry a US-based girl.
Sayankar has approached the High Court for the secondtime. In September last year, Court had directed the Army todecide his resignation-application.
However, on December 8, two days before Sayankar wasto tie the knot with his US-based fiancee Shruti Kulkarni, thearmy rejected his plea without giving any reasons.
Sayankar therefore has moved the Court again.
As per the Army rules, a serving officer can marry aforeign citizen, provided the spouse undertakes to become anIndian national. But in Sayankar''s case, Shruti is not readyto give up her United States citizenship.
The division bench of Chief Justice Mohit Shah and S JVazifdar today directed the Army to file its reply byFebruary 22.
