Irregularities in transport case: CBI raids railway officials

Bhopal, Jan 25 (PTI) The CBI sleuths today raidedeight places in Madhya Pradesh in connection with allegedirregularities committed by some railway officials in coaltransportation resulting in a loss of Rs 40 lakh to therailways, agency sources said.

The raids were conducted at four places in Rewa, threeplaces in Jabalpur and one place in Bhopal, they said.

Residences of two senior railway officials were raidedin Bhopal and Jabalpur, they said.

Besides, the raids were conducted at four places of aleading cement factory in Rewa, they said.

The railway officials allegedly favoured this Cementcompany in Rewa in coal transportation and inflicted a loss ofRs 40 lakh during the period 2007-2009.

A total of fourteen rail rakes laden with coal weretransported to the cement factory during the period.

During the raids, the CBI sleuths seized documentsrelated to the case, sources said.

The raids were on, the CBI said adding that theyinitiated action following a tip off.

A case has been registered against the accused inconnection with the case under section 120 b and 420 of IPCand relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act, CBIofficial said.

West Central Railways Chief Public Relation Officer(CPRO) Piyush Mathur said that he has come to know that somefiles have been seized by the CBI from the offices inJabalpur.
