CPI-M to align with AIADMK for TN Assembly polls
Chennai, Jan 25 (PTI) CPI-M today formally decided toforge an alliance with AIADMK to fight coming Tamil NaduAssembly elections, saying the need of the hour was to bringall secular and left democratic forces under one umbrella todefeat the DMK-Congress combine.
The decision was taken on the concluding day of thetwo-day meet here of the party''s Tamil Nadu state committeemeeting, which was also attended by CPI-M General SecretaryPrakash Karat.
A resolution adopted at the meeting alleged that thefamily of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had "spread likeoctopus" in all spheres including politics, media and filmworld and only the defeat of the DMK at the hustings couldsave the state.
In order to defeat the DMK-Congress combine and BJP, theneed of the hour was to bring all secular and left democraticforces under one umbrella, it said.
The meeting constituted a three-member committee headed bythe state Secretary G Ramakrishnan for holding seat sharingtalks with the AIADMK for the polls, due in May.
The CPI-M had contested the 2009 Lok Sabha elections aspart of the AIADMK-led front.
