BJP peace march in Jammu tomorrow: Poonam Mahajan
Mumbai, Jan 24 (PTI) The BJP will stage a peace marchin Jammu tomorrow, a day ahead of its plans to hoist thenational flag at Srinagar''s Lal Chowk on the Republic Day, theparty''s youth wing leader Poonam Mahajan announced today.
"We have been declared out of bounds from the ParadeGround at Jammu. We are organising a peace march outside theground tomorrow," the BJYM vice president, also the daughterof late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan, told PTI over phone fromJammu.
"We cannot stay in hotels. We are staying at houses(of well-wishers)," Poonam said. "I came to Jammu by flight,"she said, adding, she would have been detained had she usedroad or rail route.
She claimed that the government in Jammu and Kashmirwas afraid of "nationalists hoisting the tricolour" at LalChowk on January 26.
The Omar Abdullah government is afraid of us. Therally we were scheduled to hold has been cancelled, she added.
"Hoisting the tricolour is a matter of pride for anyIndian. Anyone opposing this is anti-national," she said.
Over 1,000 workers from Maharashtra, including BJYMstate president Sambhaji Patil Nilangekar, have arrived inJammu, Poonam said.
