Salgaocar rope in three Indian players

Panaji, Jan 21 (PTI) Goa club Salgaocar, who were on ahigh after a good showing in the on going I-League, havesigned three more players, including two from the Indian sidewhich participated in the Asian Cup in Doha, to strengthentheir team.

Defender Govin Singh and mid-fielder Baldeep Singh, whowere in the 23-member Indian squad in Doha, and James Singhare the players who have been signed by Salgaocar tostrengthen their team.

The trio could prove crucial for Salgaocar when the racefor the I-League title hots up, coach Karim Bencherifa said.

"These are crucial signings for us. We have picked thembecause of their quality and also they are young and ambitiousand fit in our scheme, just the way our team is," saidBencherfia.

Salgaocar have caught many teams by surprise with theirstupendous performance which saw them beating defendingchampions Dempo and title contenders Churchill Brothers in athriller to place themselves in the second spot with 21 pointsfrom 10 matches, five behind table toppers East Bengal.

While Govin is expected to provide cover at the centre ofdefence, which Salgaocar is lacking, the other two will bringin more solidity in the midfield.
