Woman commits suicide, family alleges harassment for dowry

New Delhi, Jan 19 (PTI) A 26-year-old woman allegedlycommitted suicide in central Delhi with her family todayalleging that harassment for dowry drove her to take theextreme step.

Harpreet Kaur was found hanging by her husband GurdevSingh (28) at their residence in Karol Bagh area and wasrushed to Metro Hospital in Ranjit Nagar at around 3 pm wherethe doctors declared her brought dead.

The husband, who works in an MNC in Gurgaon, toldpolice that she was depressed for sometime due to healthreasons but the father of the deceased alleged she died due toharassment by her husband for dowry.

Gurdev and Harpreet got married four years ago.

The body has been sent for post-mortem and a case hasbeen registered.

An inquiry by a sub-divisional magistrate has beeninitiated.

Manjeet Singh, the father of the deceased, filed acomplaint with police alleging that Gurudev had beenharasssing Harpreet for the last six months, demanding Rs twolakh and a car.

Gurdev could not be contacted for his comments. PTISJY
