Moga, Jan 19 (PTI) An elderly man was sentenced to lifeimprisonment by a local court for killing his 18-month-oldgrandson by drowning him in a water tank.
The court of Additional Sessions Judge S K Aggarwal alsoimposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on Mohinder Singh. The convict willhave to serve an additional imprisonment of two-and-a-halfyears if he does not pay the fine.
According to the prosecution, Charanjit Kaur, mother ofdeceased Harpreet Singh, had started living with her fatherafter the deaths of her mother and brother.
In her complaint to the police, Kaur had also statedthat her father Mohinder was a drug addict and an alcoholicperson, who used to sell even household items to meet hisneeds.
On November 24, 2009 when she was out of the house forhalf an hour, her father threw Harpreet in the water tank ofthe house drowning him.
When Kaur returned, she found her son missing, and herfather declined to say anything. Later, the the child wasfound dead in the water tank.
