Mumbai, Jan 19 (PTI) Delhi cueist Manan Chandra shockedsnooker legend Jimmy White of England 4-3 before getting pastIndian compatriot Kamal Chawla by a similar margin on hisway to the pre-quarterfinal knock-out round of the CCIInvitation tournament here today.
Chandra, a semi finalist at the IBSF world championshipin 2006, exacted revenge for the loss suffered by his fatherTarun against six-time world professional runner-up White morethan three decades ago with his 23-81(53), 76(74)-22, 67-25,69-1, 4-75(75), 62-71, 72-49 win in Group ''C''.
"I sort of exacted revenge for the loss suffered by myfather in the 1980 nationals at Kolkata against White. Myfather was in the top four in India then," said 29-year-oldChandra, adding that the English ace was his idol whilegrowing up.
White was an invitee in that tournament too and went onto win the national crown beating Arvind Savur.
"White is not the same player he was earlier, but isstill a top player on the pro circuit. A victory over him isno small feat. I told him about his win over my father", saidChandra who also inflicted on the English maestro his seconddefeat in three group ties. White had lost 3-4 to qualifierLaxman Rawat yesterday.
Chandra, from Bharat Petroleum, also fired the event''shighest break of 140 against Chawla to ensure he would finishin the top two in the group.
"This is my first plus 140 break in more than a year andmy highest in a tournament is 146," said the cueist.
