HC orders judicial probe into alleged detention of woman

Morena (MP), Jan 19 (PTI) Gwalior bench of Madhya PradeshHigh Court has ordered a judicial probe into an allegeddetention of a woman in the police station here for 36 hours.

The bench yesterday directed Morena Chief JudicialMagistrate (CJM) to carry out an inquiry and submit a report.

The HC direction came after Poornima, wife of one DipakChodria, contended that she had been detained by Kotwalipolice station here illegally.

She also alleged that police misbehaved with her.

Kotwali police station in-charge C Raghuvanshi told thecourt that Poornima was brought to the station only yesterdaymorning, to be produced in the High Court later.

Earlier, in response to habeas corpus petition filed byher husband, Court had asked police to produce her.

But when produced, Poornima told the High Court thatpolice held her at the station from January 16, and evenmisbehaved with her.

The habeas corpus petition filed by the husband allegesthat his mother-in-law Sashi Tomar was keeping his wifecaptive, not allowing her to meet Dipak.

Dipak and Poornima got married in Arya Samaj Mandir, andher family did not approve of the marriage, he said.

The Court yesterday also said that Poornima can live withDipak.
